~LIVE THE LAST~
Story #1: //INTEGRITY
Once there was a girl named Anne. She was a very arrogant girl. Once, she scored a 100 for her Chinese mock test. After this, she thought, "I'm so smart! I don't need to study anymore!"
Two weeks passed, and it was SA1 week. Having not studied her Chinese at all. She was shocked when she flipped through her Chinese test paper.
Fearing she would receive a harsh scolding from her parents, she decided to take a peep at the paper of the girl sitting next to her which so happened to be the girl who was second best in class for Chinese.
The more she 'peeped' the more she couldn't stop. As soon as she knew it, she had copied almost all the questions!
A month later, when the results came out, Anna's secret had been discovered by the invigilators. She was given a heavy punishment by her parents and was disqualified from the exam.
This shows that we should have integrity. If we had not studied for a test, it is better to fail then to be caught cheating!
Study for exams and try never to result to cheating.
Story #2: //LOVE
A farmer had some puppies he needed to sell. He painted a sign advertising the pups and set about Nailing it to a post on the edge of his yard. As he was driving the last nail into the post, he Felt a tug on his overalls. He looked down into the Eyes of a little boy.
Mister," he said, "I want to buy one of your puppies."
"Well," said the farmer, as he rubbed the sweat off the back of his neck, "these puppies come from fine parents and cost a good deal of money."
The boy dropped his head for a moment. Then reaching deep into his pocket, he pulled out a handful of change and held it up to the farmer. "I've got thirty-nine cents. Is that enough to take a look?"
"Sure," said the farmer. And with that he let out a whistle,"Here,Dolly!" he called. Out from the doghouse and down the ramp ran Dolly followed by four little balls of fur.
The little boy pressed his face against the chain link fence. His eyes danced with delight. As the dogs made their way to the fence, the little boy noticed something else stirring inside the doghouse.
Slowly another little ball appeared; this one noticeably smaller. Down the ramp it slid. Then in a somewhat awkward manner the little pup began hobbling toward the others, doing its best to catch up.
"I want that one," the little boy said, pointing to the runt. The farmer knelt down at the boy's side and said, "Son, you don't want that puppy. He will never be able to run and play with you like these other dogs would."
With that the little boy stepped back from the fence, reached down, and began rolling up one leg of his trousers.
In doing so he revealed a steel brace running down both sides of his leg attaching itself to a specially made shoe.
Looking back up at the farmer, he said, "You see sir, I don't run too well myself, and he will need Someone who understands."
Reflection:
This story is trying to say that if you spend so much time judging people, then you have no time to love them.
This can be applied to everyday life for example when you have a new neighbour who has tatoos all over his body, you cannot just judge that he is a gangster or a bad person. Get to know that person first.
Story #3: //GOD-FEARING
There was once a boy named Billy. He was a very lazy-mannered boy. He never bothered to study for his exams as he was always too 'tired'. However, whenever he did not do well he would ask God, " Why didn't you help me?"
But it was not God who was at fault, it was Billy himself. God will only help those wh help themselves.
I feel that we should not wait for God to help us all the time. If he were to help us do everything, he must well just live our lives for us!
This can be applied to daily life for example, we cannot expect to do well if we do not study. we cannot always rely on God.
Story #4: //TRUTH
Sally was a very proud girl. She belived that she was flawless. One day, Mrs Yeo, her math teacher, asked her to answer a question on the board. Since she had not been paying attention, she had no idea how to answer the question.
When she answered the 'all so simple' math problem wrongly, all her classmates laughed at her. She was furious. "My answer is correct! Mrs Yeo has made a mistake in her own working!" she exclaimed.
"Sally! You sit down right now! You lose out for not paying attention." Mrs Yeo said in a low voice.
None of us should be like Sally. The value TRUTH means to have the humility to admit our mistakes when we are wrong.
If we have done something wrong, admit your mistake and apologise if needed. We should never think that we are always correct and that it was others' fault.
Story #5: //GRACIOUS & HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
Mary always felt that she was fat. So, to lose weight, she decided to skip her meals. Days passed and she realised that she felt weaker and weaker day by day. Soon, she fainted during her Science class.
When she regained consciousness, the nurse told her that she lacked nutrition & skipping more meals could lead to death due to starvation.
We should always eat healthily and develop healthy coping skills. If we wanted to lose weight we should not stop eating but exercise.
We should eat a balanced diet every day. Have everything in moderation and exercise regularly.
Story #6: //JUSTICE
Lucy gasped. She had just broken her mother's favorite vase. The holidays were coming & she did not want to be grounded.
When her mother came home, she was furious. She demanded Lucy & her sister to come to the living room immediately. Lucy blurted out, "Suzie did it! I saw!"
Her mother reprimanded Suzie till she was in tears. She refused to believe Suzie. In the end, 5 days later, Lucy told the truth.
This value tells us not to do something that will benefit ourselves but hurt others.
If you have done wrong, admit your mistakes and do not point it to someone else.
Story #7: //FREEDOM
John sat in the park staring into the blue sky. He was bored to death. Just as he was kicking coke cans about, he found a some spray paint in a corner of the void deck.
He immediately grapped the cans and rushed to the playground's see-saw. He started vandalizing public property. When a resident of the nearby flats saw him, she immediately made a police report.
We should not destroy public property. Others have the freedom to use it as it does not belong to us but to the public.
Never vandalize public property and can also let others have freedom of speech as long as it does not hurt someone.
Story #8: //MAXIMIZING POTENTIAL
Kevin was a high school dropout. He was always too lazy to study. In the end, school was pointless for him. One day, he was sent for counseling.
He was told to make learning a lifelong habit and set goals that are achievable yet makes him work harder.
We should never give up on learning. It should be a life-long habit. We should not set goals that are below expectations and easy to reach.
By setting goals for our exams, we can slowly improve ourselves.
END...(or is it?)
